Appalachian Seafoam is the unanticipated new solo album from Trash Panda’s founder, Patrick Taylor, released today without prior notice. Over four years in the making, this Americana folk record offers a raw window into Taylor’s journey through personal growth, challenges, and the search for meaning. The album was born in a barn in the mountains near Burnsville, North Carolina, amid Taylor’s struggles with self-doubt, health issues, and heartbreak. Originally completed in 2023, he held it back, feeling its deep vulnerability, before quietly releasing it in 2024.

The title, Appalachian Seafoam, reflects Taylor’s sense of being adrift in life’s strange synchronicities and contrasts his mountain journey with his eventual seaside home. The title took on a darker meaning after Hurricane Helene devastated the region he holds dear. Taylor, who has family roots in North Carolina dating back to the 1700s, organized a relief effort to help the affected communities, inspired by their resilience.

The album's creation was sparked by a surreal vision of a woman emerging from seafoam, which led to the eleven haunting, introspective songs on the record. Known for his work with Trash Panda, Taylor took a detour from the band’s success to reconnect with nature and find personal healing across the American West. The resulting Appalachian Seafoam captures a journey of self-discovery and the timeless pull of the North Carolina mountains.
