«Spiritus Spiritus» is Francesco D’Auria’s second album for Caligola, two years after «Lunatics». The proven duo that sees him alongside Tino Tracanna makes use of this occasion the presence of a very special guest, the French Michel Godard, perhaps the greatest European virtuoso of the tuba, moreover not new to collaborations with the Italian duo. The project stems from the idea of narrating the music we love to share and creating a web filled with themes and improvisation in tune with our sensitivity. The need to tell our story through music, which is not confined by predefined schemes, helps us to perceive musical language as the means of communication best suited to us. «Spiritus Spiritus» is a project which draws its musical inspiration from the great depths of jazz and the art of improvisation, but it is also in tune with the great cultures of the world, with an eye to the future and in search of a fresh, lively creative identity. The recording is taken from a concert held at the Jazz in Bess, a club in Lugano, but the intensity and beauty of the performance make it even more effective and convincing than it was made in a studio.
