Roland Kayn - Simultan (2024)

Die Schachtel and SZ Sugar have released in CD format the legendary 2017 vinyl edition documenting the birth of Roland Kain's cybernetic music. Remastered from the original analog master tapes. Kain was a pioneer of electronic and computer music and created a new sonic territory - cybernetic music. He endeavored to allow sound to be self-sufficient, discarding notions of harmony, melody and rhythm and using complex networks of electronic devices to create music. Simultan, recorded in the Netherlands, is a work of beauty and humanity. It is a sonic journey that depicts a mode of existence where sound organizes itself. It ranks among the best avant-garde electronic works of its era, but has not been well recognized. The boxed edition with booklet from Die Schachtel has taken a step towards rectifying this and represents a welcome revival of this seminal work.
