The third album by self-taught Zimbabwean guitarist WaCharie impresses with its relaxed lyrics and pulsing rhythms. His vocal style, reminiscent of the renowned Congolese singer Lokua Kanza, and the musical blend of Afro-contemporary, fusion, and jazz infused with the distinctive sound of the mbira, give the album a light and accessible feel. Co-produced with Shamwari DzeRwendo, the album isn’t just appealing on the surface — it addresses serious themes like domestic and social abuse, delivered through a positive and encouraging tone. In the track "Mbwende," one can hear the influence of another famous Zimbabwean musician, Oliver Mtukudzi, thanks to the Hammond organ and bass guitar. Beneath it all lies the philosophy of "ubuntu" — the idea of universal connection and unity.
