Vicente Feliú Miranda - Heréticas (2024)

Vicente Feliu's posthumous album, Heréticas, will be released on November 11, his birthday. The album's intro describes a photograph taken in 1970 at the Havana Libre sugar factory, portraying Vicente Feliu during the time he wrote many of the songs on the album. Feliu is described as brave, navigating through life with his heart in his fist. The album reflects the turbulent emotions of the time, including the failure to meet the sugar production goal and the subsequent period of détente. Songs like "Elegía a la incoherencia" capture this period of release and tension. Feliu's connection to the Young Cuba movement and his rebellious spirit influenced many of his songs, such as "Apuntes para el presente" and "Paloma de una paz", which address current issues like the suffering of the Palestinian people. The songs were written in various locations, including Feliu's home, Silvio's house, and Pancho Varela's apartment. One of Silvio's favorite songs, "Réquiem para una noche de insomnio", was written by Feliu during a carnival night, with Silvio fondly referring to it as "Rats on the Malecon".
