Drums have always been an essential part of De-Phazz’s music. Either the ‘groove’ holds the fragile sample mosaic together during studio recordings, or the drummers act as the driving force on stage. Most people associate the lounge band, which is known for its relaxed songs, with top-class drummers. But from the very beginning, big names from the jazz and pop scene have always been used. Pit Baumgartner pays attention to the quality of the groove producers, because it is the details that start with the microtiming of a song. Reason enough, therefore, to offer the beat men a musical platform on which they can present their art with great enthusiasm and virtuosity. The longplayer juxtaposes different genres such as jazz, pop, experimental, antiquarian and documentary.

The result is 16 compositions, each based on the individual grooves of all the drummers who have crossed sticks with De-Phazz over three decades, both in the studio and on stage. The line-up sometimes sounds like a ‘who’s who’ of the German drummer scene, probably unique in this combination! The different approaches of the performers from various genres are also exciting, but they are all united by their masterly command of their instrument.
