This history of bossa nova is the result of three years of research during which Marcus Wagner, along with a team of musicians, journalists, and historians, sought to recreate the atmosphere of Copacabana in Brazil during its peak, both musically and intellectually. The story is set against the backdrop of 1950s Brazilian music, and "Soirée à Copacabana" reads like the biography of an era when musicians, writers, and philosophers brought to life a vibrant and effervescent Brazil that had close cultural ties to Paris.

This first volume introduces the pre-bossa nova era, showcasing the bohemian Copacabana of 1955, where prominent nocturnal figures included Vinicius de Moraes, Tom Jobim, and João Gilberto. These and other night owls, artists, and intellectuals form the ingredients of a soundtrack spread across two sides of vinyl, featuring hits and rare gems recorded three years before this new music genre officially came to life. The vibrancy of the poetry in this album has allowed Marcus Wagner to successfully revive one of the most significant moments in 20th-century Brazilian music.
