The album features the band's hit single "Incense and Peppermints," which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album itself peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 chart during a 24-week run. The music is characterized by its psychedelic rock, acid rock, and psychedelic pop styles, with tracks like "The World's on Fire" and "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow" exemplifying the band's signature sound. The album also includes contributions from flutist Steve Bartek, who co-wrote several songs with bassist George Bunnell. Notably, some tracks from the album were featured in the 1968 film "Psych-Out."
