The *Shake It – Make It Loose* LP by J.D. (Puma) Lewis, originally released in 1984 on the Metrovynil label, is being reissued for the first time on vinyl. Considered one of the best 80s boogie/funk albums from Germany, the album was a collaboration between American musicians John Davis and Reginald Hudson, who lived and worked in Southern Germany. Davis handled bass, guitar, and vocals, while Hudson contributed keyboards and production.

Recorded in just a week at the cutting-edge Hartmann Digital Studio, the album blends fresh synths, drum machines, and Davis's powerful vocals, delivering upbeat tracks like "The Cat (Puma)" and soulful ballads such as "Tears." Puma sportswear played a key role in financing the sessions, as Hudson worked for the company at the time, leading to the inclusion of tracks like "Dancing Shoes."

The album's original release contained six tracks, but Metrovynil added two unrelated songs without the artists' involvement. Despite confusion around credits and contributors, the music stands as a timeless example of 80s funk excellence.

The reissue features remastered audio from the original tapes, new liner notes, and additional photos in a deluxe gatefold sleeve. It includes two previously unreleased tracks, “Life’s A Party” and “Walk Out On Me,” with the digital release offering two more bonus songs.

*Shake It – Make It Loose* remains an essential album for funk and disco fans, celebrating the musical legacy and friendship of Davis and Hudson.
