Review by Cub Koda
The third entry into Hip-O's cover/tribute series yields 14 tracks of prime material, with Lonnie Mack ("Memphis") and Linda Ronstadt ("Back in the U.S.A.") kicking things off. Spanning three decades of Berry covers, this collection also includes prime cuts from the Blues Project (a great rendition of "You Can't Catch Me"), Buddy Holly ("Brown Eyed Handsome Man"), Jerry Lee Lewis ("Sweet Little Sixteen"), Emmylou Harris ("You Never Can Tell") and Rod Stewart ("Sweet Little Rock'n'Roller"). Brit-pop fans will enjoy the inclusion of the Kinks' "Too Much Monkey Business" and the Searchers' "Bye Bye Johnny." On the other side of the coin, those interested in the quirky will positively revel in Peter Tosh's "Johnny B. Goode" while ham-fisted covers of Berry classics from George Thorogood, the Stray Cats and Johnny Winter complete the package.
