Ponteix - Le canadien errant (2025) [Hi-Res]

With Le Canadien errant, Ponteix explores a shifting Franco-Canadian identity, torn between his Saskatchewan roots and his move to Montreal. Co-produced with Louis-Jean Cormier, whose imprint is clearly felt in the sounds, this concept album unfolds twelve tracks like so many intimate narratives. The Fransaskois singer-songwriter, Mario Lepage by his real name, navigates between introspection and socio-cultural observations to evoke the feeling of being out of step and the contrasts of his heritage that have shaped his journey, like that of so many compatriots. Collaborations, notably with Laurence-Anne (Partir pour revenir) and Marco Ema (Le feeling), add a touch of emotion and diversity. While the album establishes itself as a rich musical and philosophical exploration, it does not hesitate to make room for poetic nuances to dress up the themes dealt with. Le Canadien errant is convincing in its construction and an interesting listen.
