Maud Paquis’ musical ascent took off in 2020, a year marked by a lockdown that fostered creativity. It was during the Proxima project, held at the prestigious “Les Docks” concert hall in Lausanne, that the young Franco-Swiss musician made her debut on stage. From this experience, her first EP, “Morphée,” was born, featuring compositions at the intersection of jazz, pop, and French chanson, which captivated an ever-growing audience.
In September 2022, Maud Paquis felt an increasingly strong pull towards jazz and subsequently created the “Maud Paquis Quintet” ,a band where she is joined by Samuel Goupil on drums, Lennart Schandl on electric bass, Robert Soltermann on tenor saxophone, and Maurice Ruf on guitar. The four musicians met during their jazz studies at EJMA in Lausanne or HKB in Bern.
Inspired by artists such as Camille Bertault, Michel Legrand, and Cecile McLorin Salvant, Maud Paquis is now firmly rooted in the Francophone jazz tradition, bringing a fresh approach that explores the many nuances of this musical genre.
Winner of the audience award at the ZKB Jazz Prize at Moods (Zürich), Maud Paquis has already performed on many of the major stages of the Swiss jazz scene, including the Cully Jazz Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Festival da Jazz in St. Moritz, and the Langnau Jazz Nights. In addition to these, she has made appearances on well-known pop stages such as Les Docks, Fri-Son, Balélec, and in concert on La 1ère.
Maud Paquis has completed the recording of her debut album “Circé,” which she entirely wrote, composed, arranged, and produced. It will feature 11 original tracks and is set for release in February 2025.
