He learned his craft gigging in Baptist churches around Baltimore before attending Berklee - but neither location suggests the fearsome style of Conscious Without Function. On “Parallel Event Streams”, furious fingerpicking concludes with explosive outbursts; the scrabbling of “Phatic Culture” is broken up by stentorian blaring. This challenging music is not to be listened to in a fragile state of mind.”
