Kvedarkvintetten - Tagal (2025)

On February 28, 2024, the vocal group Kvedarkvintetten releases their third album, Tagal, featuring music composed by Jorun Marie Rypdal Kvernberg. The word *Tagal* means “to keep silent” or “wordless” and explores vocal music with minimal text. The piece premiered at the Førde Festival in 2021 and is now available on CD and digital platforms.

Kvernberg was inspired by folk singers singing in unison and wanted to create something in that style. She collaborated with Kvedarkvintetten to push the boundaries of vocal music by removing lyrics, allowing the voices to act purely as instruments.

Kvedarkvintetten, known for their traditional Hallingdal singing, found this new approach both challenging and inspiring. After performing the piece live, they decided to record and refine it. With the addition of Martin Langlie, they further developed the music, making it truly their own.

Now, after nearly four years, the album Tagal is finally released.
