The members of the band come from all over Germany and have already profiled themselves with their own projects. The orchestra worked with Bob Brookmeyer's New Art Orchestra, the Big Bands of Peter Herbolzheimer, Bobby Burgess, Al Porcino, with the NDR and the WDR Big Band and the Vienna Art Orchestra. In 2001, American composer and arranger Ed Partyka took over the musical direction. Again and again, international stars have been and are guest at the Sunday Night Orchestra, such as Benny Bailey, Dusko Goykovich, Al Porcino, Conte Candoli and - especially remarkably - Maria Schneider, when the Big Band played only their compositions on a tour under their leadership. With "Music without Words," the Sunday Night Orchestra presents for the first time the fruits of more than two years of collaboration with Ed Partyka. The result is a clear statement for Big Band Sound, as it is unfortunately rarely heard today - and almost no longer in Germany - rooted in the soon hundred-year Big Band tradition, but with modern and exciting, never dusty songs and arrangements. The Sunday Night Orchestra exists for almost 10 years - and yet remains fresh!
