By merging a hip-hop heritage with melancholic melodies, Skjold & Peder explore the realms of Nordic jazz and trip-hop, bridging the gap between classic and modern. Their collaboration began in Peder's studio, where they initially met to experiment and create original hip-hop rhythms. They then unexpectedly—and almost by accident—composed three of the first tracks on the now-released album, Populus.
Their synergy was undeniable, and they quickly realized they had stumbled upon a sound that resonated deeply with them.
Peder, with his extensive experience as a vocalist and music producer, brought a rich understanding of melodies and production techniques.
His experience in creating dark sonic ambiences and his work across a variety of genres influenced and helped shape the atmospheric layers of their music. Drummer and beatmaker Skjold brought his deep love of breakbeats and unique drumming style to the project, adding complex rhythms, broken beats, and extensive piano improvisation.
The duo is joined by vocalist Samantha Mercano, who lends her distinctive vocals to several tracks.
