Various Artists - Diamond Joe: The Sound of Meeks-Ville (2022)

Released in 2007, this anthology of Joe Meek's work offers rare and collectible recordings not previously available on CD. While none of the songs became hits, all of the material features Meek's oddly atmospheric sonic style, including the space echo, instrumentation, and compression that characterize Meek. The disc may interest fans of the eccentric British producer. The compilation contains five never-before-released recordings as well as 11 that were not available on CD at the time of the anthology's release. Some of the songs, such as singles by Carter-Lewis & the Southerners and Glenda Collins, have catchy melodies and vocal harmonies. Other tracks offer an interesting sound but don't stand out in particular. Overall, this is attractive collector's entertainment with detailed notes typical of Meek's compilations.
