In the mid-80s, then at the apex of his career, Michel Béroff started to suffer from focal dystonia, one of the most fearsome conditions known to musicians, affecting the mobility of their hand. As a result, he had to focus only on the left-hand piano repertoire and eventually pause his career for several years. Recorded just before his temporary retirement from stage, this album includes a collection of solo pieces meant to exercise the left hand, coupled with Prokofiev’s fourth concerto dedicated to famous amputee Paul Wittgenstein.
