Andre Previn, David Rose - Like Blue (1960)

As a follow up to 1958's Grammy winning "Like Young," Previn and composer/conductor David Rose recorded their second theme-based album with songs containing the word "blue." Previn penned The Blue Subterranean and Like Blue, while Rose contributed Blue Holiday and You and the Blues. Other cuts include numbers by Fats Waller, Mel Torme, and Rodgers and Hart. Previn is in fine form on piano, but only stretches out on a couple of numbers, notably Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. The album blurs the line between light jazz and easy listening. Recorded at RCA Victor Studios in Hollywood. No indication of the other players on the album, but presumably RCA studio musicians. Originally released in 1959 in the UK. First U.S. release on MGM in 1960.
