Rudy’s Midnight Machine - Mistral (2025)

It's been a whole 15 years since Robin 'Faze Action' Lee brought us the first EP from his side project Rudy's Midnight Machine, and now here at last comes the first RMM full-length. 'Mistral' opens with the light, summery 'Les Voiles' but the cello-dripping, Dead Can Dance-like 'Kori Kori' then denotes something of a left turn into more experimental pastures, with the rest of the album flitting back and forth between mellow jazz-funk slices like 'Light Room' and 'Shutter Falls', and more ambient/leftfield cuts like 'Entwine' and, of course, 'Mistral' itself. At just 33 minutes' total playing time it's a fairly short album, but 'Kori Kori' is worth the price of admission on its own.
