Roy Brown Ramírez, born on July 18, 1945, is a Puerto Rican folk musician and singer. His debut album Yo Protesto, originally released in 1969 under the Vanguardia label and later by the Puerto Rican Socialist Party's Disco Libre, became a symbol of political unrest during the 1970 student riots at the University of Puerto Rico. The album's songs reflected the island’s sociopolitical issues and rebellion. In 2005, a tribute album titled Yo Protesto: Roy Brown y sus Amigos was released with contributions from various artists. Brown celebrated the album’s 40th anniversary with a concert in 2011.
