Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (東京スカパラダイスオーケストラ), commonly abbreviated by fans as Skapara or TSPO, is a Japanese Ska and Jazz band officially formed in 1988 by the percussionist Asa-Chang, and initially composed of over 10 veterans of Tokyo's underground scene. At the time, the band's sound was unlike that of any of its contemporaries in the then fledgling Japanese ska scene, and over the course of the past 21 years, their innovation has proved to have been very influential on Japanese music as a whole. Its sound, the product of the musical influences of its numerous members, is an eclectic mix of traditional ska, jazz, and rock. In the vein of many other more traditional ska acts, many of Skapara's songs are purely instrumental. Since its inception, the band has gone on several nationwide tours of Japan, and have toured extensively worldwide. They have collaborated with several vocalists outside of their band, including Shiina Ringo, Akira Kobayashi, Kyōko Koizumi, Scha Dara Parr, PUFFY and Tamio Okuda. They also performed the Japanese theme song to the PlayStation 2 game Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, entitled "BLACK JACK".
In the late 1980s, there was a band that played numerous live shows, mainly on the streets and in clubs. Their name was "Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra." They attracted large audiences with their overwhelming performances, and in 1989, they released the yellow vinyl "TOKYO SKA PARADISE ORCHESTRA" as an indie band. The following year, in 1990, they made their major debut with the single "MONSTER ROCK" and the album "Skapara Appears." Since then, based on their roots in ska, they have earned the trust of being one of the world's leading live bands with their wide-ranging musicality that is not bound by genre, in other words, "TOKYO SKA."
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra's best album is set for release! It includes songs with guest vocals, the latest collaboration song "Oshiete Ouroboros feat. Miyazaki Asako (SHISHAMO)" and the trilogy "Ichi Hi Hana feat. Imase & Narashino High School Brass Band", "Ano Natsu no Aimai ME feat. SUPER EIGHT", "Sakiyuku Hana no Sekai feat. Suda Masaki" which are based on the band's theme "NO BORDER". It also goes back to the "song trilogy" released in 2001 and 2002 which shocked the Japanese music scene, "Mekureta Orange feat. Tajima Takao", "Kanaria Naku Sora feat. Chiba Yusuke", and "Utsukushiku Moeru Mori feat. Okuda Tamio", and concludes with Skapara's latest song "Mada Akimete Ni Nai Desho?", making it a 3-disc set [DISC 1-3]. A total of 51 songs were selected by Kinichi Mogi (drums) and included on the 3-disc set, and as the title "NO BORDER HITS 2025→2001" indicates, the songs included are perfectly suited to Skapara's theme of "NO BORDER."
