Gianfranco Reverberi - The Reverberi Group (2025) [Hi-Res]

The Reverberi Group gathers music that Gianfranco and Gian Piero Reverberi released on now impossible-to-find library records under the name Ninety between 1972 and 1973, and which undoubtedly ranks among the brothers’ finest music for visual media.
The Reverberi "group" mentioned in the title was in all likelihood the more well-known Underground Set, which itself comprised the very same members as the prog-rock band Nuova Idea, at that time produced by Gianfranco Reverberi. Similar to the Underground Set’s L'uomo dal pennello d'oro, War in the Night Before, and other instances, the band here recorded diverse, jam-oriented pieces that traversed genres ranging from rock and blues to folk and experimental, all intended as music for use in films, documentaries, and television programs.

The album's standout track, "Memento," is a psychedelic rock piece balancing epic grandeur with a mystical atmosphere, and it appears in five different versions. Also noteworthy is "Elettronica per un giallo," with its unsettling delirium of electronic sound effects, feedback, and distortions, as well as folk-prog-tinged tracks like "Arch Flute" and the bluesy feel of "Heavy Party."

This is a varied and captivating exploration through hypnotic riffs, raw acoustic duets, Hammond organ lines, and psychedelic synthesizers, demonstrating the Reverberi brothers’ broad compositional range in terms of moods and musical styles.
