Jazz singer Trudy Kerr is joined by British jazz legend and Ellington aficionado Michael Garrick on an album that mixes Ellington favourites such as "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" and "In a Sentimental Mood", with some of Michael Garrick's original compositions. A warm, sensuous and sophisticated album.
The musical relationship that produced this album began around five years ago, when Trudy Kerr was asked by Michael Garrick to teach singing at his annual Jazz Academy Summer School. Impressed not only by his superb musicianship, but also by the enthusiasm and erudition displayed in his lectures on Duke Ellington - whose songs were among the first she learned when honing her singing skills in her native Australia - she realised that she had found the perfect partner for a pet project: "I wanted the experience of recording these classic songs with a great accompanist who had a real affinity for the music."
"Trudy is able to address any song with assurance, her technical ability taken for granted, her diction crystal-clear and her intonation flawless. Consequently, all her artistic resources are available to concentrate on producing original and deeply personal interpretations." - Chris Parker, Jazz Journalist
