Darrifourcq / Hermia / Ceccaldi is a Franco-Belgian "brutal jazz" trio formed in 2012 by drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq, saxophonist Manuel Hermia, and cellist Valentin Ceccaldi. Since their debut album GOD AT THE CASINO, released in 2016, the trio has committed to a long-term artistic exploration. United by a shared vision of free jazz, improvisation in the service of storytelling, and temporal elasticity, the three musicians infuse their compositions with anything that allows them to explore the extreme dynamics of music. Free jazz, rock, noise, contemporary music, and world music all serve as pretexts for the singular and enthusiastic expression of a universe where minimalist, motionless landscapes collide with the most violent sonic hurricanes.
Their second album, KAIJU EATS CHEESEBURGERS, marked a clear shift towards lengthier, increasingly cinematic forms.
Now, with UNICORN AND FLEXIBILITY, the trio delves even deeper into the musical path that has earned them recognition across Europe. Their raw energy and astonishing intensity remain at the core of their work, but more than ever, their sound is shaped by rhythmic disruption. Slow developments are increasingly interrupted by abrupt shifts in timing, tempo, and sonic texture, creating a unique temporal experience.
