An incredible return to form for the legendary Last Poets – and a set that's maybe one of the most hard-burning albums they ever recorded! The group reprise some of their most famous themes – messages first spoken in the 70s, but which continue to have an incredible amount of power all these many decades later – in part because the need for such social consciousness and change has not gone away, and also because this time around the group present their words with support from drummer Tony Allen and Egypt 80, in a way that brings in all the right Afro Funk elements to the core! There's also some key jazz work on the session too – Fender Rhodes from Joe Armon-Jones, keyboards from Kaidi Tatham, and tenor from Courtney Pine – all players who help make the whole thing an all-star affair of the highest level. Poets Umar Bin Hassan, Baba Donn Babatundeaba, and Abiodun Oyowele sound more righteous here than ever.
