Osmium - OSMIUM (2025) [Hi-Res]

OSMIUM is a boundary-pushing electroacoustic collaboration between Hildur Guðnadóttir (Oscar-winning Icelandic composer and halldorophone player), James Ginzburg (emptyset, Subtext), Rully Shabara (Senyawa), and Sam Slater (Grammy-winning producer). Their self-titled debut album blends metallic drones, custom-built instruments, robotic rhythms, and alien vocalizations, challenging fixed notions of genre, future, and identity.

Drawing influence from folk, doom metal, industrial, minimalism, and noise, the album explores the human-machine interface through unorthodox instrumentation: Guðnadóttir’s halldorophone, Slater’s self-oscillating drum, Ginzburg’s monocord-inspired device, and Shabara’s voice — transformed via extended techniques into mechanical and primal sounds. The result is a volatile sonic landscape of speculative sound design, ritualistic textures, and a fluid fusion of ancient and futuristic energies.
