Chicha Libre - Canibalismo (2012)

Chicha Libre, the brainchild of Frenchman Olivier Conan, revives the little-known Peruvian genre of chicha — a psychedelic descendant of cumbia — with flair and humor. Using the vintage Electravox wah wah accordion and vibrant percussion, the band infuses traditional rhythms with mischief and playfulness. Their music is packed with colorful stories, tropical energy, and unexpected twists, including a quirky spaghetti-western rendition of The Ride of the Valkyries. The only minor flaw is the vocal delivery, which lacks the smooth sensuality typical of Latin America, but the album's exuberance more than makes up for it.
