Bobby Krlic (The Haxan Cloak) reunites with director Ari Aster after Midsommar and Beau Is Afraid for this dark, contemporary American western. Set in the spring of 2020 during the COVID pandemic in the fictional town of Eddington, New Mexico, the story follows a couple, Lindsay (Emma Stone) and Marc (Austin Butler), who, after running out of gas, seek help in the seemingly welcoming town. As night falls, the town reveals a sinister side. The anxiety-ridden score, shaped by Krlic’s deep, droning bass and suspenseful tones, is complemented by Daniel Pemberton’s eclectic contributions — including western motifs with flutes, burlesque touches, and lyrical passages. The film’s genre-blending nature — part western, noir, black comedy, social satire, and pandemic thriller — is mirrored in its unsettling, richly textured soundtrack.
