Bad Debts are a newly formed group based in Castlemaine, Victoria, a regional country town renowned for its high calibre of musical offerings and output. Fronted by three individual songwriters— Pete Daly, Al Carr, and Mitch Dillon— they're joined by Al Stanley on drums.

What do Bad Debts sound like? They've been variously described as loose rock 'n' roll and open-sky roots music, and you get a real sense these guys have grown up on a diverse musical diet, with a common thread being the contrasting sound of widescreen Americana and freewheeling, low-slung guitar rock.

What started off as a fun way for four acquaintances to blow off musical steam quickly developed into something everyone thought was more promising and fully deserving of official band status.

Under Kalimna Skies takes its name from the Aboriginal word meaning ‘beautiful’, and Kalimna Park— an area of bushland In Castlemaine where the band hails from, honouring the sense of connection to the region where the songs were all written, rehearsed, and recorded.

As the band explain, the songs were written by each individual songwriter, often just as drafts to be shaped and moulded during rehearsals. "It was a great process being able hear an initial sketch of a song and then getting to work on fleshing it out with each band member contributing their own feel and style to the song. The end result is our unique Bad Debts sound, comprised of three individual songwriters’ styles."
