Description: Quattro is Bonifica Emiliana Veneta’s first album in nearly two decades, marking their return to active music-making. The album draws inspiration from the musical traditions of Italy’s “Four Provinces” (Alessandria, Genoa, Pavia, and Piacenza) in the Apennine foothills. It features only two traditional tracks (“Mond e pais e mond” and the title track “Quattro”), while the remaining songs are original compositions reimagining regional dance forms like perigordino, alessandrine, and monferrine (“Lingua madre,” “Leb,” “5&6,” “oXaia”). Tracks like “Sull’alba,” “Libero stile,” and “Serenata controtempo” employ narrative styles such as stranòt and serenata, conveying personal and emotional storytelling. For instance, “Sull’alba” is a folk ballad about hope, while “Genova (per te domani)” narrates a journey to a beloved, symbolized by the city of Genoa, with vibrant choral execution. The album blends traditional instruments (piva, mandoloncello, accordion, double bass) with modern arrangements, incorporating progressive rock and rock elements, making it innovative yet rooted in tradition.
