Tech Duinn is the debut album by the international music collective Cushla, featuring Irish sean-nós vocalist Nell Ní Chróinín, Spanish producer Marc Fernández (Akkan, Ocellot), and Irish composer Leo Pearson. Named after the Celtic otherworld—a mythological place between life and death, myth and memory—the album is a unique fusion of traditional Irish melodies with contemporary electronics, including analog synths, drum machines, and ambient soundscapes. Its eight tracks, spanning 32 minutes, explore themes of mythology, mortality, and cultural memory, blending ancient sean-nós vocal traditions with experimental sound design. Key singles like “Ar Casa,” “The Mountain,” and “7 Years” have been praised for their innovative mix of Irish instrumentation (pipes, fiddles, drones) with electronic textures. The track “7 Years” reimagines a classic “broken-token” folk ballad with dark, cinematic elements. Recorded with a focus on preserving the rhythms and poetry of the Irish language, the album highlights Nell Ní Chróinín’s voice, considered one of the leading sean-nós singers today. Tech Duinn has been critically acclaimed for balancing heritage and futurism, earning spots on 2025 best-of lists by Hot Press and District Magazine.
