Ensemble Chakâm - Les vents brûlants (2025)

Les vents brûlants is the debut album by the trio Ensemble Chakâm, featuring Sogol Mirzaei (Iran, tar and setar), Christine Zayed (Palestine, qanun and vocals), and Marie-Suzanne de Loye (France, viola da gamba). The 38-minute album blends classical Persian, Arabic, and Baroque musical traditions with contemporary compositions and improvisations across eight tracks, including four pieces by Sogol Mirzaei, three by Christine Zayed, and a traditional Palestinian song, “Niyalak.” Exploring themes of exile, nostalgia, female empowerment, and hope, the trio—named after an ancient Persian poetic form—creates a rich soundscape where the vibrant tar, silky qanun, and deep viola da gamba engage in a powerful yet soothing dialogue. The album reflects the personal journeys of the musicians, their cross-cultural experiences, and their fight for freedom of expression, making it both a musical and socio-political statement. Tracks like the lively opener “Didâr” and the lyrical “Najma (Etoile)” showcase a balance of poetic finesse and rhythmic vitality. The album has been critically acclaimed and ranked in the top 10 of the Transglobal World Music Chart in April 2025.
