Nowhere Brothers are Italian siblings who demonstrate that the kernel of Americana music that touches our souls is actually global. Their latest album, Till the End of Nowhere, is a trek through the American west, with songs of challenges, tough decisions, autonomy and nostalgia all formed in the shadows of the iconic landscapes. Songs are complex with slide guitars, harmonica, long shadows and an expansive band sound.

The song “Mestizo” opens the album with eerie Western suspense and a persistent echoey harmonica melody and electric slide guitar solos later on as the song tells the tale of a truck driver with ancestral reminiscences juxtaposed with modern life. Next in “Colt” its a herd of wild ponies galloping for their lives.

“Barstow” treats the listener to searing harmonica and a loping blues rock pace, in a love story gone wrong. In “Nevada” the dobro sets up hazy images of soul searching.

“Blackeye” steps things up a notch with soaring electric guitar solo by João Ribeiro, in this song of natural landscapes bulldozed by human “progress” and a cowboy who won’t walk away from his homeland.

“Fever” showcases the brothers’ funkier side, and opens into some smokin’ slide melodies. “Saviour’s Howl” continues the Western themes of desolation with a Latin style. “Be Again” steps into a bit of indie-folk in a confessional song of an estranged father and son.

There’s sorrow in these nostalgic Western songs, a pain that comes from confronting certain truths, that’s delivered with Southern rock styles but always delivered with restraint.
