THE MELODIES FROM EAST ASIA is a distinguished collection of music featuring five contemporary piano solos (composed by Toru Takemitsu, Ma Shui-Long, Young Ja Lee, Un Hoe Park, Hojung Yoo) and one oboe-piano duo (composed by Hyunjoo Byon; commissioned through the Korean Society of Women Composers). The music reflects a rich blend of Eastern musical traditions, capturing the essence of the people’s lives and culture. The works evoke the distinctive characteristics of Japanese, Taiwanese, and Korean musical heritage, weaving them into innovative and evocative compositions that create a unique and captivating sound. This album offers a broad spectrum of classical piano music, bridging the exquisite sound of the East with Western classical tradition.
