The four members of this powerhouse group joined forces when they were all attending Western Connecticut State University. They are: Charlie Widmer, vocals and guitar; Austin Scelzo, vocals and fiddle (also a member of the esteemed New England band Rock Hearts); Tom Polizzi, vocals and mandolin and Matt Curley on bass.

Even though this is the band’s debut album, it’s quite accomplished, with strong songwriting, memorable vocal outings, and a solid mastery of their instruments. The members have a penchant for torchy love songs, such as the heart-torn “What Do I Need With Love,” which particularly showcases Widmer’s remarkable voice, at times reminiscent of John Cowan.

“Trouble In My Soul” and “Better Days” are cast in a similar groove. “On the Trail,” on the other hand, is a robust, old-timey-sounding celebration, and “Gospel Plow” is a traditionally flavored spiritual ode. “On The Fence” is a spot-on instrumental. Another highlight is the R&B-tinged confessional “Can’t Get You Out of My Mind.”
