Recorded in 1982, this anthology of tunes and madrigals by Thomas Morley assembles hand-picked singers including Emma Kirkby, whose slightly acidic voice is a matter of preference, among four sopranos. Composer and organist at Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London, writer and editor, Englishman Thomas Morley is considered as the founder of the English school of madrigal due to the Italian music he published in England which inspires his own compositions. The Consort of Musicke is a group of singers specialising in music from the Renaissance to the early Baroque period. Founded by Anthony Rooley in 1969, the group has completed more than one hundred and twenty recordings over a period of thirty years beginning in 1972. Some have become legendary and then disappeared from the catalogues while others continue to be regularly republished.
