Spirit Mechanix - Uhambo (2025) [Hi-Res]

Uhambo (meaning "The Journey" in Zulu) is the debut EP by South African duo Spirit Mechanix, comprised of Samukelo Mahlalela and Sibonile "Makhenikha" Mahlaba. The album offers a sincere and grounded exploration of deep house, drawing inspiration from family, faith, and the soulful pulse of 90s South African house music. Stripped of frills, the music focuses on emotion, groove, and intention, reflecting the artists’ real-life experiences—from church choirs and cassette tape collecting to formal sound engineering and scoring for film. Samukelo’s cinematic depth, derived from his work on Netflix projects, and Sibonile’s warmth, rooted in live instrumentation and underground DJ culture, create a sound that is both authentic and contemporary.
