"We're New Here" is a reimagining of Gil Scott-Heron's final studio album, "I'm New Here," by British producer Jamie xx. In place of the original's stark, minimalist, and somber sound, Jamie xx envelops Scott-Heron's weary yet wise voice in soundscapes inspired by the UK club scene. The album fuses the legendary artist's gravelly vocals and spoken-word poetry with contemporary electronic rhythms, creating an entirely new work. Jamie xx utilizes the vocal tracks from the original sessions but completely replaces the musical backings, blending elements of dubstep, garage, and house. This is not merely a remix compilation but a genuine dialogue between two artists from different generations and musical worlds, highlighting the timeless relevance of Scott-Heron's words in a new, unexpected context.
