Laïka - BBC Radio Sessions (BBC Radio Session) (2025) [Hi-Res]

Recorded in 2000, Laika's Peel session features two tracks from their 'Good Looking Blues' album and two deeper rarities.

Released as part of the Beggars Arkive BBC Radio Sessions Vol. 2 subscription series, Laika's session has been around for a while - it's included on the excellent 'Lost In Space - Volume One (1993-2002)' comp, for starters - but it's nice to see it pop up again all the same. Guy Fixsen and Margaret Fiedler's psychedelic post-trip-hop project is, for our money, one of the most underrated British bands of the era, and this brief four-track sampler is a good way to get acquainted before you dig into the longer albums. There's live versions of 'Badtimes' and 'Go Fish' that were no doubt played to drum up hype for 2000's 'Good Looking Blues', and the duo also dropped in a couple of curveballs, playing the 1997 track 'Looking for the Jackalope' and exclusive jam 'Lower Than the Stars'.
