Has it really been over 20 months since we last got a new Sick Thoughts EP? Another Piece Of Plastic sure is a welcome return, with Drew Owen in fine form. Compared to 2023’s Born To Blitzkrieg, this one trades a bit of the nastiness for melody—without losing any bite.
It kicks off with the late-’70s punk brilliance of Me And My Guitar, a human–machine bromance that’s as kickass as it is fun. Then comes 19977, whose chorus is so infectious it would almost be annoying if it weren’t delivered with such glorious disaffection and dissonance. The title track pushes into post-punk territory while still dripping with snotty pop-punk attitude, and Just Die Fast could’ve slotted right onto the last EP—it scorches everything in its path while adding some extra electricity and suspense to this new set of tunes.
All told, Another Piece Of Plastic is short, sharp, and another reminder why Sick Thoughts remain essential listening for punk fans worldwide.
