On her superb new album, Nightwriter, singer- songwriter, Charlie Collins takes vulnerability to entirely new, often uncharted territories.
Recorded in only three weeks with the legendary Neil Finn and Steven Schram (Crowded House, San Cisco) at Roundhead Studios in Auckland, and mixed by Tom Iansek (Big Scary, #1 Dads), it’s a white-knuckle ride through what it means to soar too high, crash out and start the painful process of finding redemption, both artistically and personally.
An album created by someone in recovery, who at one point worried she’d never be able to write again. A collection of songs that started as late night iPhone demos, or melodies sung down the line into an answering machine from rehab. Throughout Nightwriter Charlie takes her listeners with her, on her own personal journey. From falling into toxic relationships and pulling herself out, to the reality of being close to death from an opioid overdose, being locked up in psychiatric ward and an even longer spell getting clean.
