"Chapter One" is the debut studio album from jazz pianist Caelan Cardello, recorded with his working trio. The album's creation was sparked when Geoffrey Hoefer, head of JazzBird Records, heard the trio perform at Mezzrow jazz club in New York and was so moved that he offered Cardello a record deal on the spot. The title signifies a pivotal moment in the artist's life, marking the end of his formal schooling and the beginning of his independent career. The album features eight original compositions by Cardello, along with three arrangements of pieces by Cole Porter, Cedar Walton, and Harold Mabern. The recording features Jonathon Muir-Cotton on bass and Domo Branch on drums, with guest saxophonist Chris Lewis appearing on three tracks. The music blends a reverence for the swing tradition with modern melodies and harmonies.
