Tempo Fermo: Rising Bassist Fabrizio Cucco’s New Album That Stops Time and Sweeps Listeners into a Melodic Dream

The story behind flourishing Italian bassist and composer Fabrizio Cucco’s new album, Tempo Fermo, should inspire all of us to follow our intuition. Both elegantly romantic and deeply transporting, this is the artist’s first release with 577 Records. The recording unites beautiful vocals and skillful instrumentation through fierce creativity.

It all began in 2024 when Fabrizio asked renowned singer and composer Cristina Zavalloni to write lyrics for one of his pieces, which he had originally created as an instrumental ensemble. Their initial collaboration produced the album’s fourth track, “Il Tempo Fermo”. However, it swiftly became the impetus for the development of the entire album. Cristina’s captivating vocals are present in most of its songs, including the first, “Resto”, which she wrote herself.

“The only non-original piece is ‘Tempo’, a song by Lucio Dalla, on which I have carried out a melodic and harmonic reworking,” Cucco explains.

He personally assembled all arrangements for Tempo Fermo. He approached it with a special focus on the strings section, for which he purposefully chose violinist Marcello Sirignano to lead. Saxophonist Maurizio Giammarco, oboist Felipe Sosa, pianist Sebastian Marino, and drummer Alessandro Marzi contributed to the project, too.

Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Fabrizio Cucco studied under Gianfranco Gullotto. He has performed at music festivals across his country and around the world. In addition to being a bassist and composer, he is also a music educator.
