Oskar Lindberget - Hymn to a Friend (2025) [Hi-Res]

Hymn to a Friend is the debut album by Norwegian saxophonist and composer Oskar Lindberget, recorded with a quintet featuring Øystein Folkedal (keyboards), Markus Kaardal (guitar), Håkon Huldt-Nystrøm (double bass), and Tobias Rønnevig (drums). Recorded in May 2024 at Athletic Sound in Halden, Norway, mixed in October 2024, and mastered in April 2025, the album blends influences from modern large ensemble jazz, Norwegian traditional music, free and contemporary classical music, and a more straightforward jazz language. The repertoire consists mainly of Lindberget’s original compositions, except for “MiRakel” by Øystein Folkedal. The music ranges from melodic simplicity with space for improvisation to more complex harmonic structures.
