The Black Twig Pickers are a trio from the Virginia/West Virginia border region, consisting of Isak Howell, Nathan Bowles, and Mike Gangloff. The band is deeply immersed in the living tradition of Appalachian old-time music, combining a scholarly approach with an ecstatic and highly personal performance style. Emerging from an experimental and drone music scene (members played in the band Pelt), the musicians came to traditional music out of their love for it, but brought their unique avant-garde perspective. They have actively collaborated with artists such as Jack Rose and Charlie Parr. Their album "Whompyjawed" features dance-oriented, long-form, and rhythmically rich tracks that blend traditional fiddle and banjo sounds with hypnotic, almost psychedelic drone textures, creating a unique sound at the intersection of old-time folk music and the modern avant-garde.Title: Whompyjawed
