"Lost Son" is a deeply personal concept album structured as a chronological narrative. It documents Laust Sonne's own story, beginning with the desperation and heartbreak of active drug and alcohol addiction, moving through psychosis and a near-death experience that forced him to realize the seriousness of his situation. The album then follows his first steps toward a new life, the process of healing, self-awareness, and rediscovering himself, concluding with songs about forgiveness, surrender, and the return of love.

The album is closely related to the book "Laust and Maria," published by the artist and his co-author earlier the same year. The record was in the making for eight years, with Laust Sonne handling most of the writing, recording, and production himself. This lengthy process was a deliberate choice to achieve maximum honesty in the lyrics and music, which were rewritten and reworked multiple times until they reached the desired emotional and production-level spot.
