Don Was, co-founder of the pop-funk band Was (Not Was) and a renowned producer (The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan), has released his first solo album, "Groove in the Face of Adversity." Despite his long-standing role as the head of the jazz label Blue Note, Was returns to his roots as a bassist. Together with his ensemble, The Pan-Detroit Ensemble, he presents a record in the format of a live jam session. The album features an eclectic repertoire, spanning country, soul, 70s jazz, and funk. The music, unified by a powerful groove and led by the expressive vocals of Steffanie Christi'an and vibrant instrumental solos, sounds spontaneous and organic, showcasing the pure pleasure of collaborative creation.
