Aki Yli-Salomaki - Hyväksyminen (Live) (2025) [Hi-Res]

Composer Aki Yli-Salomäki has created a 40-minute choral piece titled "Acceptance" (Hyväksyminen). The work explores the theme of acceptance—of oneself, of others, of one's own limitations, and of one's responsibility. The project is unique in that the music was written before the text. Yli-Salomäki, known for his work in art music, ambient, and electronic music, approached the poet Auli Särkiö-Pitkänen with already finished musical ideas. She created short, concise texts that organically fit into the existing music. The piece, consisting of 12 seamlessly connected parts, will be performed by the Somnium Ensemble choir, conducted by Elisa Huovinen, featuring a pianist and the composer himself on electronics. The music is characterized as slow and meditative, with broad soundscapes and melodic arcs. "Acceptance" is a profound and relevant reflection that invites the listener to pause and immerse themselves in a world of sounds and words, touching on themes for which there is often no time in our fast-paced lives.
