Lillian King - In Your Long Shadow (2025) [Hi-Res]

Lillian King's debut album, In Your Long Shadow, is set for release on October 24th, with its central theme being the grief following the loss of her father, Neil King Jr., who passed away in September 2024. The album reflects how this grief permeates daily life and activities her father loved, such as cooking and walking. King found that the best coping mechanisms were talking to her family and producing this album.

The arrangements were put together in a couple of weeks collaboratively with bandmates Robert Salazar (drums) and Nick DePrey (keys, bass, guitar), and Jack Henry (producer) later joined for recording and mixing. While some tracks, like "Underwater," are years old, the majority of the material was written in the months leading up to the studio sessions, such as "Dragging Dirt." Despite the heavy subject matter, the recording process was spontaneous and light-hearted, leading to the unexpected creation of the song "Echo." The album is about loss as much as it is about living with it, echoing the advice of King's sister: "Every album from now on is going to be a grief album."

In Your Long Shadow will be the first non-Krug project released by the label Pronounced Kroog, founded by Spencer Krug. Krug, who first met King while she opened for his solo shows in June 2024, was so impressed by her music that he offered to release her full-length album, despite the label previously only handling his own work.
